Based on feedback from our last e-mail, your voices are being heard by our district trustees. During a discussion the DEANs Board had with an NMUSD board member last night, it was indicated that the district is on track to return to school by the end of September. With that said, there are still obstacles that could potentially jeopardize this timeline. So, it is important for families to continue making their concerns and opinions known. Therefore, we wanted to make you aware of two other avenues you can utilize to voice your opinions, suggestions and recommendations.

The first avenue is VERY time sensitive! The NMUSD Board of Education is having a special meeting this Thursday, September 3rd and you have the opportunity to submit public comments for the entire board. Your comment card must be received no later than 9am on September 3rd. Whether you want schools opened as soon as possible or if you want the district to apply for the Elementary school waiver, please use the following link to submit any feedback you feel is appropriate. The agenda section that you are interested in commenting on is section 6a: The District’s Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The other avenue to reach out to is the Newport-Mesa Federation of Teachers President, Tamara Fairbanks. Our teachers union is an important partner and contributor to helping open our children’s schools. You can reach Ms. Fairbanks at [email protected] to share your thoughts and suggestions.

We hope that this information is helpful in allowing you to have a say in your children’s school district policy. These are difficult times for everyone, but rest assured our community will come through this stronger and more united.

Sincerely,

Ryan Hart
DEANS President
