a) The DEANS Board and PTA Co-Presidentsdiscussed the upcoming Big Friday event, scheduled for 8/20/21 from 4-6pm. Invitations have been distributed via email to all families registered for the 2021/2022 school year. Final planning and arrangements were made for a variety of logistical items. Several auction prizes were also added to the event, including a Luxury Suite at Del Mar Race Track for Sunday, August 29th.
b) Principal Lewis raised the possibility of a Recess Art program, which would provide alternative activities for kids at lunch time once a month. The program would be open to all students and various levels of Art activities would be provided based on age. The DEANS Board voted unanimously to fund the $5,000 annual cost of the program, which breaks down to ~$2 per student.
c) The PTA Co-Presidents and PTA Representative Gina Harbour discussed the upcoming slate of After School Enrichment Programs. A wide variety of activities was included in the programs in order to appeal to as much of the student body as possible. The programs will run for roughly 8 weeks on various days after school. As of now, activities for Fall are scheduled to include: Skate Dogs, Golf, Basketball, Chess, Spanish, Lego’s, Fashion Camp, Cheernastics, Musical Theater, Art, and Homework Club. Final steps include negotiating site fees with the district, which range from $9 per day for Not-for-Profit providers and $130 per day for For-profit providers. PTA/DEANS and Dr. Lewis are all working hard with the district to lower the $130 For-profit fees to the $9 Non-for-profit level so they are consistent for all providers.
